Meet our other Instructors

We have a group of other instructors who work regularly with the school that we’d like to introduce you to. All of these instructors share our passion for all forms of boating and we have carefully selected to join the team.

John Oldridge

John, like all of our instructors, has a passion for the water and spends his time split between acting as a lead skipper for Solent RIB Charter and instructing at PTUK and Aquasafe. John was actively involved in the training we undertook for London 2012 and runs a mixture of courses for us from Level 2 to Dayskipper Practical. John’s qualifications include: RYA Powerboat Trainer; RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Power) and RYA/MCA Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster & Advanced Powerboat.

Bill Merry

Bill got into boating when he moved to a place which is about as far away from the sea as you could get. He decided to opt out of corporate life to run a business  by the coast and hasn’t looked back since. He has now moved to Lymington and is one of our key Instructors there. Bills’ qualifications include RYA Powerboat Instructor and RYA/MRC Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore.

Jon Tricker

Jon has boated for many years and decided to learn in a structured way with PTUK from Level 2 to Advanced Instructor. He thoroughly enjoy every aspect of being on the water instructing, taking pride in seeing clients build and expand existing boating skills. In his spare time he volunteers with Herts swift water and flood rescue team operating as a technician. His qualifications include RYA Advanced Powerboat instructor, RYA / MCA Advanced Powerboat Commercially Endorsed, RYA First Aid Instructor and Rescue 3 Swift Water And Rescue Boat Technician.

Paul Brown

Paul started on the water as a young child being taught to sail dinghies by his father, progressing into RIBs and sailing yachts. He volunteered as a Sea Scout instructor while at University, and he undertook his Powerboat Instructor course in 2004 (at PTUK!). Since that initial instructor course, he realised he enjoyed afloat teaching so much that he has since undertaken numerous additional courses and qualifications. Fun fact: One August bank holiday, to avoid the dreadful road traffic, he decided to go by RIB from Poole to Penzance for the long weekend. Took a lot longer even allowing for road traffic, but was much more fun, and a great experience!

Adam Parry

Adam started boating when he was 14 on a small inflatable with a 10hp engine and his love of the water and the marine environment went from there. He has over twenty years experience of training where he used to work with the Ministry of Defence. He is currently a fisheries officer, and regularly spend 3-4 days a week at sea water patrolling the coastal waters between Lyme Regis and Chichester.

Mike Darkin

Mike took up sea and river kayaking as a hobby in the year 2000 and joined the RLSS Poole Lifeguard club in Poole. He quickly became involved in lifesaving training and lifeguard support on Sandbanks Beach and further trained as a coxswain on the inshore lifeguard support boats. He developed his skills through RYA qualifications becoming a Powerboat Instructor in 2010. He has used many different types of vessels both in the UK and abroad including providing safety support to a charity event up the Garonne River from the Bay of Biscay to Bordeaux.
