Paul Glatzel is the Principal of Powerboat Training UK and has been actively involved is assisting over 50% of those superyachts that have achieved RYA recognition to date. He has run the Instructor courses for many more too.

He has spoken at PYA events on the subject of PW operation on Superyachts and written for a number of magazines on the subject.

In 2007 we saw  the introduction of a new specialist RYA course dedicated to addressing the needs of Superyachts with Personal Watercraft on board.

The Introduction to Personal Watercraft Safety Course is a new RYA course aimed at guests on board a Superyacht whether under charter or with the owner on board. Discussions between the PYA ("Professional Yachtsman's Association") & RYA have led to a scheme that allows a Superyacht to become recognised as a RYA Training Centre and then with a RYA PW Instructor on board they can  run this new course allowing issue of a short term and vessel specific licence to charter guests, regular guests and crew.

Powerboat Training UK are specialists in PWC & Powerboat Instructor training and provide PW & Powerboat Instructor Training Courses,  indeed two of the Trainers that work at the school (one of which was  Paul Glatzel) ran the first of the Instructor Courses aimed at this new market for the RYA in Antibes in April 2007

We also assist yachts to become RYA Training Centres creating  all necessary documentation and procedures – most notably we undertook this for the first yacht to achieve such recognition – MY Kogo.

The areas that we assist yachts with can be summarised as:

  • Undertake 3 day RYA PWC Instructors Course or combined 4 day RYA Powerboat Instructors Course (3 days) plus RYA PWC Instructors Conversion Course (1 day).

  • Preparatory courses available pre Instructors including Powerboat Level 2 (Coastal), PWC Certificate of Competence, VHF, Navigation refreshers available too.

  • Consultancy advice available on setting up yacht as a RYA Recognised Training Centre. This can range from review of your documentation and setup to taking full responsibility for the writing of the various manuals and documents necessary for recognition.

  • Windsurf and Dinghy Instructor Courses available too for suitably qualified and experience Crew.

  • General powerboat, jetski and navigation training available too.
