Powerboat: Safety Boat

"The aim of the course is to introduce the techniques used in powerboats escorting racing fleets of dinghies and windsurfers, providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets, and assisting in race management. Techniques for canoes/kayaks and kite surfers will also be discussed." 2 days
   
6 students to 1 Instructor with 2 boats. Level 2 as a minimum however it is key that your boat handling is good before you attend the course as there is not the time to 'brush up' during it. 
   
We normally run from 9-5 both days making sure you get good value for your investment 16

The Instructor will be a highly experienced powerboater but also possessing the practical experience of working win a safety boat environment.


Specifically the course covers:

  • Boat checks and the safety equipment needed on board
  • Race management
  • Boat positioning with respect to the fleet
  • Boat handling in close proximity to sailing craft/kayaks etc
  • Dinghy rescue – methods for recovering persons from the water.
  • Dealing with entrapments
  • Righting multihulls & performance dinghies
  • Windsurfer recovery and rescue.
  • Recovery of kayaks/canoes.
  • Towing – alongside and inline towing.
  • Rescue of other water users
  • Lee shore rescues
     


This course is run is association with Rockley Watersports. Rockley are Poole based and are a specialist in the area of dinghy sailing, kayaking and windsurfing hence our tie up with them so we can offer you the best possible training.

Note: We often find that attendees on these courses are a ‘bit rusty’ on the powerboat handling side when they attend. As you will be handling craft in close proximity to people it is essential that you can ensure your handling is good before attending.
