Max ratio is 5 students to 1 Instructor on your craft or  4 students to 1 Instructor on our craft.

To attend course: 15 days with 2 as skipper. 300 miles with 8 night hours.

To undertake examination: 30 days with 2 as skipper, 800 miles with 12 night hours. This reduces to 20 days with 2 as skipper, 400 miles with 12 night hours for those holding the Coastal Skipper Practical Course Completion Certificate. VHF/SRC Certificate, First Aid. Syllabus for the examination is as for Yachtmaster – see below.

Whilst not a prerequisite, it is advisable to have completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory course before attending.

We run from 9-5  making sure you get good value for your investment. Additionally there is a night time passage. Most Coastal Skipper Courses are run on demand both on our Motor Cruiser and on your own boat. Call/email to discuss.

The Coastal Skipper course is an advanced level 5 day course that culminates in an optional examination for those requiring the Coastal Skipper Certificate which can then be commercially endorsed.  Whilst the syllabus is broadly speaking the same as for the Dayskipper course the subjects are covered in far more detail. The subjects we cover include:

Your instructor will cover the following topics with you during your course:

  • Preparation for sea
  • Boat Handling (inc rough water)
  • Passage making
  • Pilotage
  • Meteorology
  • Rules of the road
  • Use of engines
  • Emergency situations
  • Undertaking searches
  • Night cruising

If you have decided to go on to the Examination at the end of the Course then the Instructor will spend time with you during the 5 days looking at how the examination will be structured and what the expectations of the examiner will be.
