Instructor Courses ~ which course?

 

Throughout the year we run numerous Instructor courses, Instructor preparation courses and assessments for those keen to become an Instructor. We are always happy to provide advice and guidance for those keen to pursue this route so do not hesitate to contact us. Predictably there are different 'types' of Instructor according to what you want to teach, scroll down to look at each of the disciplines or click the 'quick links':

 

RYA National Powerboat Scheme
 

RYA Powerboat Instructor

Can teach the following courses from the RYA National Powerboat Scheme:

  • RYA Powerboat Level 1

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2

  • RYA Safety Boat (if the Instructor possess the qualification themselves)

Achieved by successfully passing the 3 day RYA Powerboat Instructors Course

RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor

Can teach the following courses from the RYA National Powerboat Scheme:

  • RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course

  • RYA Advanced Powerboat Course

  • Can undertake 'Own Boat Training' away from Operating Area of Training Centre

  • As per RYA Powerboat Instructor above

Achieved by successfully passing the 2 day RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors Endorsement

RYA Powerboat Trainer

Can teach:

  • All RYA Powerboat Courses

  • RYA Powerboat and Advanced Powerboat Instructor Courses in the UK and by appointment of the RYA, overseas

Achieved by successfully passing the 4 day RYA Powerboat Trainers Course.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Examiner
   RYA Centre Inspector

A RYA Powerboat Trainer authorised and trained by the RYA to examine:

  • RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence Examination

Achieved by passing the RYA's assessment for RYA Advanced Powerboat Examiners.

 

 

   A RYA Powerboat Trainer, RYA Personal Watercraft Trainer, RYA Windsurf Trainer or RYA Dinghy Coach authorised and trained by the RYA to undertake Inspections of RYA Training Centres in the UK.

Additionally Centre Inspectors may be asked by the RYA to extend their remit to:

  • Overseas Centres
  • Superyachts
  • 'Spot inspections' of Centres

 
     
     
 
RYA Motor Cruising Scheme
 
RYA Cruising Instructor

Can teach the following courses from the RYA Motor Cruising  Scheme:

  • RYA Motor Cruising Helmsman's Course

  • RYA Motor Cruising Dayskipper Practical Course

Achieved by successfully passing the RYA Cruising Instructor assessment/course.

We run these as follows:

  • Existing RYA Powerboat Instructors: 1 day assessment/course
  • Others: 3 day Cruising Instructor Course

RYA Yachtmaster Instructor

Can teach the following courses from the RYA Motor Cruising  Scheme:

  • RYA Motor Cruising Helmsman's Course

  • RYA Motor Cruising Dayskipper Practical Course

  • RYA Motor Cruising Coastal Skipper Course

  • Yachtmaster Preparation Courses

Achieved by successfully passing the RYA Yachtmaster Instructor assessment/course.

Whilst these courses are run centrally by the RYA we are often asked to help candidates prepare for these courses.

RYA Yachtmaster Examiner
A RYA Yachtmaster Instructor invited by the RYA to become an Examiner. Examiners undertake RYA Coastal Skipper, RYA Advanced Powerboat and RYA Yachtmaster examinations.

RYA Yachtmaster Examiner ~ 'Code of Practice' Centre Inspector
A RYA Yachtmaster Examiner invited to become an Inspector inspecting RYA Motor Cruising and Sail Cruising Training Centres
 
 
     
RYA Personal Watercraft Scheme
 
RYA Personal Watercraft Instructor

Can teach the following courses from the RYA Personal Watercraft Scheme:

  • RYA Personal Watercraft Certificate of Proficiency

  • RYA Introduction to Personal Watercraft safety (Superyachts only)

Achieved by successfully passing the 3 day RYA Personal Watercraft Instructors Course or for existing RYA Powerboat Instructors the 1 day conversion course.

RYA Personal Watercraft Trainer
A RYA Powerboat Trainer who is also a RYA Personal Watercraft Instructor who is invited by the RYA to extend their training remit to the RYA Personal Watercraft Scheme.
 
 
 
RYA Shorebased Courses
 
RYA Shorebased courses instructors
The Instructor courses for shorebased courses are run centrally by the RYA. More information can be found here - www.ryatraining.org/runningcourses/instructors/instructortraining/

The courses include:

  • RYA VHF/SRC Assessor
  • RYA Diesel Engine Instructor
  • RYA First Aid Instructor
  • RYA Shorebased Instructor
  • RYA Radar Instructor
  • RYA Sea Survival Instructor

Whilst we do not run these course directly we can advise on them and construct bespoke courses to prepare individuals for these courses.
